Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the TapOwner website, mobile app, and QR code contact service. By creating an account or scanning a TapOwner QR code, you agree to these terms.
1. About the service
TapOwner provides a privacy-preserving contact relay for vehicle owners. Vehicle owners (“Owners”) place QR codes on their vehicles. Members of the public (“Scanners”) can scan these codes to send anonymous messages to the Owner without seeing their personal details.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create a TapOwner account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
3. Account responsibilities
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You must provide a valid email address and phone number for your account to function.
- You may only link QR codes to vehicles you own or have permission to manage.
- You are responsible for any activity that occurs under your account.
4. QR codes
- QR codes are pre-generated inventory. You activate (“claim”) them using the code provided with your purchase.
- Each QR code can be linked to one vehicle at a time.
- QR codes can be unlinked and relinked to different vehicles.
- Deactivation of a QR code is permanent and cannot be reversed.
- You may transfer a QR code to another user via the transfer feature.
5. Acceptable use
When using TapOwner — whether as an Owner or a Scanner — you must not:
- Send abusive, threatening, obscene, or harassing messages
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to identify or track Scanners beyond the anonymised information provided
- Scan QR codes to spam, harass, or stalk vehicle owners
- Circumvent rate limits, verification steps, or blocking mechanisms
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
- Create accounts with false information or impersonate others
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice.
6. Content moderation
Messages sent through TapOwner are subject to automated content moderation. Messages that contain abusive or inappropriate content may be flagged, filtered, or blocked. Owners can also block individual Scanners and report abuse.
7. Purchases and payments
- Purchases are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
- All prices are in GBP and include VAT where applicable.
- Physical QR codes are shipped to UK addresses only at this time.
- Digital QR codes are available immediately after purchase.
- Refunds for physical products are available within 14 days of delivery if the QR codes are unused and in original condition. Contact support@tapowner.app to request a refund.
- Digital products are non-refundable once the QR codes have been claimed.
8. Privacy
Your use of TapOwner is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. The core principle: the Owner’s phone number, email, and personal details are never exposed to the Scanner.
9. Availability and warranties
- We aim to keep TapOwner available 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted service.
- We may perform maintenance, updates, or changes that temporarily affect availability.
- The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We do not guarantee that messages will always be delivered successfully.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, TapOwner shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Account deletion
You may delete your account at any time by contacting support@tapowner.app. Upon deletion:
- All your personal data will be erased within 30 days
- QR codes linked to your account will be unlinked and returned to unlinked status
- Message history associated with your QR codes will be deleted
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify account holders of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
