Scan a TapOwner QR code

Seen a sticker on a vehicle? Scan it to contact the owner — it takes under 30 seconds.

1

Open your phone camera

On most phones, simply open the built-in Camera app. No special app is needed.

By device:

  • iPhone — Open the Camera app and point it at the QR code. A notification banner will appear at the top — tap it.
  • Android — Open the Camera app and hold it over the QR code. A link will appear — tap it. If nothing happens, try Google Lens (the icon in your camera app).
  • Samsung — Open Camera, point at the QR code. If it doesn't work, swipe to enable “Scan QR codes” in Camera settings.
2

Point at the QR code

Hold your phone about 15-30cm away from the sticker. Make sure the entire QR code is visible in the frame. A link to tapowner.app will appear — tap it to open.

3

Verify you're near the vehicle

You'll be asked to enter the last 4 characters of the vehicle's reg. This confirms you're physically near the car — look at the number plate and type them in.

Example: if the plate is AB12 CDE, enter 3CDE.

4

Send a message

Choose what you need:

  • Send a message — pick a reason (wrong parking, lights on, damage, other) and type your message. The owner gets notified instantly.

Troubleshooting

My camera doesn't scan the QR code
  • Make sure the entire QR code is in frame and well-lit
  • Clean your camera lens
  • Try holding your phone a bit further away (20-30cm)
  • On Android, try using Google Lens instead of the default camera
  • Check that QR code scanning is enabled in your camera settings
The verification code isn't working
Enter the last 4 characters of the vehicle's reg (letters and numbers). Make sure you're reading from the actual number plate on the vehicle, not from any other source. Characters are not case-sensitive.
The owner isn't responding
The owner may have notifications muted or set availability hours. Your message has been delivered — they'll see it when they next check.
The QR code says “unlinked” or “inactive”
The sticker hasn't been set up by the vehicle owner yet. Unfortunately there's no way to contact them through TapOwner until they activate their sticker.
