What is TapOwner?
TapOwner is an anonymous contact platform for vehicle owners. You place a QR code on your car and anyone who needs to reach you — to tell you your lights are on, you need to move, or there's damage — can scan it and send you a message without ever seeing your phone number.
How does TapOwner protect my privacy?
Your phone number is never shown to the person scanning your QR code. Messages are relayed through our platform. The scanner only sees the QR code — no personal information is exposed.
How do I get started?
Get a free QR code from our website, create an account, and link it to your vehicle registration. Print it and place it on your car dashboard.
What does the scanner need to do?
They scan your QR code with their phone camera, enter the last 4 characters of your registration plate to verify they're near your vehicle, then choose to send a message. No app download required — it works in any mobile browser.
Can I have multiple QR codes for different vehicles?
Yes. Each QR code is linked to one vehicle at a time, but you can have as many QR codes as you need across different vehicles. Manage them all from a single account.
What if I sell my car or change vehicles?
You can unlink a QR code from one vehicle and relink it to another at any time from your dashboard. If you no longer need a QR code, you can deactivate it permanently.
Can I control when people can contact me?
Yes. Each QR code has its own availability settings. You can toggle messages on or off, mute notifications temporarily, or set a schedule for when you're contactable.
What types of messages can people send?
Scanners can choose a category — Move Car, Lights On, Damage Report, or Other — and write a free-text message up to 500 characters. All messages go through content moderation before delivery.
Is the service free?
TapOwner is completely free. There are no monthly fees, subscriptions, or hidden charges. All messaging and contact features are included.
What if someone abuses the system?
You can block any sender from your message inbox. Blocked senders cannot contact you again. Messages are also moderated for inappropriate content. If you experience persistent abuse, contact us at support@tapowner.app.
Do I need the mobile app?
No. You can manage everything from the web dashboard at tapowner.app/dashboard. The mobile app offers push notifications and a quicker experience but is not required.
What happens if I lose my QR code or it gets damaged?
You can deactivate the old QR code from your dashboard so nobody can use it, then activate a new one and link it to your vehicle. Your message history is tied to your account, not the QR code.
